KUCHING (July 26): A book showcasing the latest information on mangrove forests across the country was launched here today in conjunction with the national-level celebration of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem 2024.

The launch ceremony of the book titled ‘Status of Mangroves in Malaysia’ was held at Hilton Hotel here, and officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii.

“This book is a continuation of the previous edition published by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in 2020,” said Huang in his speech.

The book also is a compilation of findings from various studies and offers valuable information that can serve as a reference for mangrove forest management.

Additionally, it provides guidance for mangrove conservation efforts to preserve this invaluable ecosystem for current and future generations.

Also present at the event were Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability secretary-general Dr Ching Too Kim, MUDeNR permanent secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi and Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia deputy director-general (Policy and Planning) Dato Zahari Ibrahim.
