KUCHING, 16 September: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) together with Malaysian-Indonesian law enforcement agencies and strategic partners implemented Border Crossing Ops 2026 to strengthen wildlife monitoring and protection in the border areas of both countries.
The operation, which ran from 10 to 15 September, involved the Aruk-Biawak area and around the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
According to the SFC statement, a total of 98 members from 18 agencies and organizations from Malaysia as well as Indonesia were involved in the operation.
"The activities carried out include joint patrols in border areas and forests, restrictions and checks at strategic locations as well as cross-border route monitoring to prevent smuggling activity.
"The operation also involves the sharing of information and intelligence between agencies to enhance enforcement capabilities in dealing with cross-border activities", according to the statement.
In addition to enforcement, the 1000 Site Visit Programme is also implemented through visits and awareness sessions with communities in border areas.
The programme aims to increase public understanding and support of wildlife conservation and natural treasures.
According to SFC, Malaysia-Indonesia cooperation through the operation reflects continued commitment of both countries in addressing cross-border threats, as well as strengthening wildlife conservation efforts and community engagement.
