KUCHING, 17 September: Borneo Jazz Festival presents a new concept under the theme 'Beyond Jazz' for its 20th edition on 4 and 5 December, with Miri city chosen as venue for the first time.
Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this edition opens a new page to the festival regarding filling that is no longer limited to musical performances.
"Borneo Jazz brings together musicians, communities and audiences from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei as well as Indonesia, thereby strengthening ties between neighbouring countries through music and culture.
"The festival also provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the diversity of sounds, stories and creative expressions from the Borneo region, while maintaining international artist engagement as well as elevating Borneo Jazz as a music platform with a wider reach", he said at the launch ceremony of Borneo Jazz Festival 2026 here today.
Abdul Karim said that the main performance taking place at Pullman Miri Waterfront is also equipped with Borneo Jazz Festival Village, which is a free open space operating from 10 am to 10 pm.
He said the festival featured various fillings including food and drinks, arts and crafts, family activities as well as live performances, in addition to participation of Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Indonesia through All Borneo Pavilion.
"The festival also strengthens talent development through collaboration with Berklee Asia Rising through workshops, master classes and collaborative sessions, as well as organising the five-kilometer Borneo Jazz Fun Run on December 5", he said.
Tickets for the 2026 Borneo Jazz Festival will go on sale at midnight on October 3 through the official website of Jazzborneo.com.
Abdul Karim said the 20th edition of the festival is expected to boost business and tourism activities in Miri.
"Borneo Jazz is not just a bigger festival, it brings more meaningful fulfillment by raising Borneo's creative talent and culture, as well as benefiting the tourism sector, community and local economy", he said.
