MIRI: The Miri International Youth Chamber of Commerce will host the Second Borneo Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) summit from Aug 23 to 25.

According to a press release on Thursday (Aug 1), the event is co-organised by Curtin University Miri, and aims to promote Sustainable Development Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

This summit presents a valuable opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration, fostering innovative solutions for educational challenges in the region.

The organisers look forward to a successful and impactful event that will contribute to the sustainable development of education in Borneo.

“The announcement came following the first planning meeting between the summit’s preparation team and Curtin University.

“During the meeting, Curtin University expressed its commitment to the event and outlined plans to organise a series of workshops focusing on humanities, culture, and business.

“The summit will bring together a diverse array of participants, including non-profit organisations, educational institutions, government departments, community groups, and the public.

“The goal is to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and inspire collective efforts toward achieving educational equity and quality in the Borneo region,” it said.

Key features of the summit will include interactive workshops, panel discussions, an education fair, keynote speeches, and art exhibitions.

These activities are designed to provide a comprehensive platform for participants to explore innovative approaches to achieving educational equity and quality.

Prominent figures at the planning meeting included Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor Pauline Ho; Lecturer/Higher Degree by Research Programme Coordinator Dr Ivy Hii Siaw Hung; Senior Lecturer/Associate Dean, R&D Faculty of Business Dr Tiong Ying Ying; and Lecturer/Associate Director, Learning and Teaching School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE) Delon Chai Wei How. Also in attendance were JCI Miri President Michelle Toh and organising chairperson Owen Chu Jing Wen.

The organising committee has extended an invitation to all NGOs, policymakers, and related parties to participate in this significant event.
