BANGKOK, 14 September: Sarawak Prime Minister, His Highness Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended a Ministerial Roundtable Meeting with 37 world energy leaders to discuss the direction and priorities of future energy systems.
The GASTECH 2026 meeting in Bangkok brought together energy industry leaders and figures from various countries, including Algeria, Brunei, the United States, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Thailand and ASEAN countries.
The discussion focused on the need to develop sustainable energy systems to meet increasing global energy demand.
Among the key topics that have become important are the development of reliable energy systems, electrification expansion and low-carbon energy, as well as the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and capital mobilization in shaping future energy systems.
The discussions also touched on the energy path of the future in the face of changing geopolitical landscapes, increased electrification and rapid development of digital economy.
The session is part of the Leadership Roundtables 2026 series that explores how energy systems can support economic growth in an increasingly challenging global environment.
Brother Johari's participation in the platform also reflects Sarawak's involvement in broader discussions on the future of energy.
This is especially so as the sector faces major changes due to technological developments, decarbonisation needs and increased energy demand.
