KUCHING, Oct 9: To sustain the nation’s rice supply, the Federal government is providing RM2.62 billion in assistance for rice farmers, doubling its harvesting incentive rate from RM50 to RM100 per hectare per season while RM300 ploughing incentive rate will be expanded to paddy farmers in Sabah and Sarawak.
This was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
“This means that for every hectare of paddy fields, farmers will enjoy around RM4,300, covering seed, fertilizer, pesticide, ploughing fee subsidies, and paddy price support.”
He also noted that to restore and enrich paddy soil, RM20 million is provided to supply foliar fertilizer for over 10,000 hectares of paddy land.
The Federal Government will also strengthen its collaboration with State Governments to execute agrifood projects to generate meaningful outcomes at the community level.
“This cooperation will be further intensified with an allocation of RM300 million. Among the successful projects is red tilapia farming in Batang Ai, Sarawak, which supports the production of 7.2 million fish fry annually, benefiting 200 small-scale farmers,” he said. – DayakDaily
