KUCHING, June 30: Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel) will roll out tomorrow (July 1), allowing eligible private diesel vehicle owners to purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre, compared to the market price of RM3.97 per litre for the period July 1 to 8, 2026.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the initiative is expected benefit around 400,000 private diesel vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia, along with another 300,000 in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

“This represents a significant expandion from the previous Budi Diesel Individual initiative, which covered around 180,000 monthly cash aid recipients in Peninsular Malaysia to partially offset diesel purchases at market prices.

“In addition, about 70,000 commercial and goods transport vehicles in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will continue to receive subsidised diesel at RM2.15 per litre under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS),” it said in a statement today.

The Madani government said that the subsidy framework will be extended to include pickup trucks and jeeps registered under company names, subject to eligibility requirements.

“The subsidy mechanism is designed to ensure that qualified Malaysians are protected from full market fuel prices, while also supporting key transport and logistics sectors and helping to stabilise household expenses,” the ministry said.

The MoF added that early access to the programme, which began on June 27, has proceeded smoothly nationwide, with the MyKad verification system at petrol stations operating without major disruptions.

As of 12 noon today (June 30), around 80,000 transactions had been recorded, involving the purchase of approximately 3.2 million litres of subsidised diesel worth nearly RM7 million at RM2.15 per litre

Eligible owners of diesel pickup trucks and jeeps may apply for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel per month via the official Budi Madani portal, subject to conditions set by the authorities.
“More than 22,000 applications had been received as of 9am today,” the ministry said.

The government is also allowing subsidy eligibility transfers to close family members where vehicles are used by someone other than the registered owner, including spouses, parents, children or siblings.

The MoF said each eligibility transfer is permitted only once and to a single recipient, who will then be able to use their own MyKad to access subsidised diesel under the original entitlement.

The ministry disclosed that nearly 1,000 applications have been submitted for this mechanism.

Separately, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will implement a three-month exemption on vehicle ownership transfer fees for diesel vehicles starting July 1, with selected fees currently reaching up to RM100. JPJ will also operate weekend counters throughout July to facilitate applications.

Members of the public can check eligibility status, monthly quotas and further details via the official Budi Madani portal at www.budimadani.gov.my.

The ministry added that it will continue monitoring the rollout closely to minimise leakages, ensure fair distribution, and maintain stability in national fuel supply. — DayakDaily
