KUCHING: Practice reading habits, remember to help people, and remember that what you have is to help others, said Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen.
The Bandar Kuching MP shared that as a policymaker, he strives to help people and reminds himself daily of the ‘why’ behind his choices and actions, which is to assist others.
“Everything that you have is not for you, but to help others. Remember where you came from, and always push yourself to be humble and to improve,” he said when officiating at the ‘SPM Power Prep 2023’ workshop at UCSI Hotel, which runs from Saturday (Dec 16) to Sunday (Dec 17).
Yii encouraged the approximately 800 students from 42 schools attending the workshop to develop habits that could benefit them in the future, specifically reading habits.
“Develop a habit of reading. Don’t just read textbooks; learn to read other types of books too. I always carry a book around, and I read to expand my knowledge and learn more,” he said.
Yii also advised the students not to just prepare for the SPM, but to prepare for the journey ahead and not to study merely for the sake of it.
“The little I study today is for the future I will have. Don’t just study for the sake of studying; remember why you are doing it,” he added.
Among those present at the workshop were the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCSI University, Sarawak Campus, Mukvinder Sandhu; Samuel Pui, Director of the Student Enrolment Centre; and George Lam, Special Assistant to Kelvin Yii.
