KUCHING: Efforts to promote and preserve Sarawak’s traditional arts and culture must be intensified to safeguard the state’s rich heritage from vanishing over time, said political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samat Gany.

He emphasised the importance of enhancing initiatives related to traditional arts, particularly through more frequent programmes aimed at engaging the younger generation and encouraging their participation.

“I fully support and advocate for more regular programmes like this, as they serve as a platform to draw the interest of youth, encouraging them to take part in wholesome activities,” he said.

He expressed confidence that with strong participation and support from the community, these cultural performances would not only become more vibrant but also foster stronger connections between leaders and the people.

Abdul Samat said this in his speech during the Cultural and Arts Performance Competition organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and the Kejiranan Mesra Kampung Bintangor Besar at Dewan Dato Hajah Juma’ani, SK Rakyat, on Saturday.

He expressed hope that the high level of participation would continue and pledged his ongoing support for such efforts in the future.

“This is our strength, as we unite through diversity. At this event, we not only celebrate Sarawak’s cultural diversity but also promote community empowerment, ensuring that local residents are directly involved,” he added.

He highlighted that this platform should be maintained and nurtured for continued community engagement.

Also present was DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
