Car fire claims man’s life

KUCHING: A man tragically lost his life in a car fire early this morning (Sep 10) when his vehicle, a Proton Saga, became fully engulfed in flames following a self-accident along Jalan Matang Batu Kawa.

The incident transpired around 2:31 am, prompting a swift response from the team at Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba), who reached the location by 2:46 am, covering a distance of 14 kilometres. Upon their arrival, the Proton Saga had been completely consumed by fire.

Firefighters mentioned that bystanders had managed to pull the male victim out of the blazing vehicle before the fire department’s arrival.

Sadly, the medical team from the Ministry of Health (KKM) later confirmed the victim’s death at the scene.

Efficiently, the firefighting team brought the blaze under control using a hose reel, completely extinguishing the flames by 3 am. The victim’s remains were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigation and procedures.

By 3:20 am, the operation was wrapped up after ensuring the safety of the area and neutralizing any potential fire risks.
