KUCHING (July 17): The presence of smoke from CATS FM’s main switch board room has caused disruption in its air programming operation and online streaming.

According to a statement from the local radio station which is based in Jalan Bako at Petra Jaya here, the power outage began at 9.16pm last night.

The Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) team from Petra Jaya and Sarawak Energy’s technical personnel were immediately called to the scene, said CATS FM in a statement.

The situation was brought under control at 10.05pm after a thorough inspection by the Bomba team, with the help of Sarawak Energy’s team who conducted checks for any major technical faults or damages to the main circuits.

The shutdown had resulted in a shutdown in the operations of the station including its broadcast – on air and online last night.

“CATS FM resumed its broadcast throughout the state at 9.16am today (July 17) except for its Kuching’s transmission.

“By 10am, the Gunung Serapi transmitter was able to send its signal throughout Kuching and the interruption was fully fixed,” said CATS FM.

Despite this, CATS programming had to be put on music automation mode during the shutdown while its technical team continued with their repair and maintenance work.

“CATS FM management regrets the service disruption and will conduct an internal investigation to find out the cause of the power outage to ensure that such incident will not recur in future,” it said.
