KUCHING, Aug 3: China’s Honghe County Singing and Dance troupe, with 25 top-tier performers, is set to deliver a captivating cultural performance at the MBKS Floating Theatre on Aug 6, starting at 7.30pm.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng urged Kuching residents not to miss this rare opportunity to enjoy the fantastic performance, which the Chinese Consulate-General in Kuching described as “a must-see”.
“Yunnan has 26 ethnic groups with different cultural dances. Visitors to Yunnan can witness these diverse ethnic minorities and their vibrant cultures, but now Kuching citizens don’t have to visit Yunnan to witness this extraordinary cultural performance.
“The Yunnan and Kunming friendship cities with MBKS have especially sent 25 members in the troupe to perform for us for free,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live today.
Wee pointed out that the programme is fully funded by the Chinese government in support of Kuching City’s 36th anniversary celebration and the Kuching Food Festival 2024.
“This reflects the strong friendship between MBKS and the Chinese cities as well as their confidence towards Sarawak,” he added.
Wee extended his deepest appreciation to the local governments of Yunnan and Kunming Provinces for their support.
“There will be limited seats, so it’s first come, first to grab the seats,” he said.
Among the artistes coming include Zhang Wei, Lu Yanru, Li Junjiang, Li Jingbi, Li Huaixi, and Li Huaifu.
The 90-minute performance will feature ‘Flowers Blooming in Yunnan’ dance; songs ‘Ajuhe’, ‘Terraces on the Clouds’ and ‘Forever Norma Amei’, Hani dance ‘Yang Girl’, Dai trio dance ‘Brocade Cluster’, Bawu Hulusi performance ‘Passionate Bawu’; Dai dance ‘Water Charm’, songs ‘Torches of Torch Festival’ and ‘Little River Flowing Jasmine’; Zhuang solo dance ‘Dongtian’; Wa and Jingpo dance ‘Plateau Sisters’; Yi dance ‘Embroidery’; and songs ‘Stepping on the Clouds’ and ‘Seeing Another Nest of Birds’.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s Walk taking place on Aug 18 has recorded 6,000 participants so far, with registrations still open until the target of 10,000 has been reached.
Wee also urged the public to sign up for the programme, which is free. Participants will also get special edition t-shirts on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.
The walk will be flagged off at 7am at Jalan Canna Lily Boulevard within the MBKS headquarters. — DayakDaily
