Chinese national woman in Kuching fined RM3,000 for soliciting

KUCHING (Aug 6): A 40-year-old Chinese national woman was fined RM3,000 in default eight months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for soliciting for prostitution.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan imposed the fine on Lu Chunmei after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which provides for an imprisonment of not exceeding one year, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Lu was arrested during a raid under ‘Ops Noda’ at a reflexology centre in Jalan Setia Raja here at around 12pm on July 16, 2024.

Police, who conducted an inspection in an unnumbered room at the premises, found Lu offering sexual services to a policeman who went undercover as a customer.

Items seized during the raid included a condom, RM200 cash, and Lu’s passport.

The case was prosecuted by Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while Lu was unrepresented by counsel.
