KUCHING (Oct 13): Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak is glad the party’s national secretary-general Anthony Loke has come forth to clarify inheritance tax would not be introduced, said its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
He said with a cabinet minister such as Loke refuting the rumour on the proposed implementation of inheritance tax, this would end all speculative reporting by the media before the announcement of Budget 2025.
Chong said this would also put to rest the worries and anxiety among those who first read about the speculation over a week ago from several mainstream national news outlets.
“This again highlights the role of DAP Sarawak in the present federal government. We will continue to be the voice of the people. At the same time, we will leverage on our wider national DAP platform to shape government policies while continue to better serve the interest of the people,” he said in a statement today.
Today, Loke at the Federal Territory DAP Convention shot down news reports that the Anwar administration was mulling reintroducing inheritance tax, calling it a mere rumour while criticising his own party colleagues for believing it.
According to Loke, who is also Transport Minister, the tax was never discussed in Cabinet meetings.
Prior to this, Chong in a statement on Oct 6 said all five MPs from DAP Sarawak would vote against the proposed Inheritance Tax if it is brought in parliament.
