Tan says the council had taken the necessary action to address the matter, contrary to what Lam had alleged.

KUCHING (July 27): Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has refuted an accusation leveled against the council regarding alleged delays in addressing the cracked road and collapsed drainage at Lorong 1 Jalan Dusun Utara.

MPP chairman Tan Kai said the council had taken the necessary action to address the matter, contrary to what Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Sarawak secretary George Lam had alleged.

“As the said collapsed drain wall falls under the Public Works Department (JKR) road reserve, MPP liaised directly with JKR to resolve the matter.

“Following the local community’s report to MPP, JKR conducted a site visit to the site at Lorong 1 Jalan Dusun Utara on July 1, 2024,” he said in a statement.

Tan stressed that MPP had been working closely with other relevant agencies to assist the community by upgrading and maintaining facilities within the Padawan municipality.

“It is important to note that the responsibility for these tasks does not lie solely with the council, but also with other agencies that have jurisdiction in certain areas and descriptions.

“MPP also urges the public to give JKR and other agencies, including the council, ample time for any works to be completed. It is not fair comment and not within qualified privilege to make allegations against the council without ascertaining the truth,” he added.
