MIRI: Indonesian students from the Community Learning Centres (CLC) in Sarawak took part in the 4th Sarawakian Zone Indonesian Jamboree (JAIM Zora) at an oil palm plantation here from Aug 13-16.

The jamboree, themed “Stepping Together, Learning, Enjoying, and Creating in the Spirit of Unity in Diversity,” was officially inaugurated on Wednesday (Aug 14) by the Consul General of Indonesia, Raden Sigit Witjaksono.

The jamboree was organised by the Indonesian Teachers of Sarawak (GIS) and supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI), the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI), and the Indonesian School in Kota Kinabalu (SIKK).

JAIM Zora 4 chairperson Yanda Marda said the event was an important experience for the CLC students in Sarawak, emphasising that it is a major camping event complemented by various scouting activities, including a campfire event, a typical scout jamboree event.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Raden Sigit said the Indonesian Consulate General recognises the benefits of encouraging the relationships among the students and teachers of the CLCs in Sarawak.

“It will help nurture a love for nature and instil a sense of nationalism among the students,” he said.

The students who participated in the jamboree are children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) working in oil palm plantations in Sarawak.
