Collision at Bekenu Bridge claims rider’s life

MIRI: A local rider succumbed to severe injuries after a two-vehicle collision at Bekenu Bridge here on Sunday.

The accident, involving a Toyota Hilux and a Yamaha motorcycle, happened around 5.30 am

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the police investigation found that the pick-up truck, driven by a 41-year-old man, collided with the motorcycle ridden by the 49-year-old victim.

“As a result, the victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Bekenu health clinic. His body was then taken to the hospital for a post-mortem,” he added.

Alexson said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
