Collision sends two cars into ravine, drivers injured

SIBU: Two drivers were injured after their cars collided into each other and crashed into a ravine along Jalan Sibu-Ulu Oya this morning.

The accident, involving a Proton Saga and a Proton Wira, happened near SK Ulu Sungai Merah around 8.05 am.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sungai Merah station were dispatched to the scene, about 14km away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found both vehicles in the bushes. The team also extricated a trapped woman from the Saga.

The 47-year-old driver, whose injuries were not specified, was handed over to the paramedics for on-site treatment before being transported to the hospital.

Meanwhile, her passenger, a 26-year-old woman, exited the vehicle on her own and escaped injuries.

As for the Wira driver, he was rescued out of the vehicle by passers-by and taken to the hospital for further treatment. His identity and extent of his injuries were not known.
