Coming Sarawak DUN sitting last before state polls

KUCHING (Sept 22): The upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting will be the last of the current term, said Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

However, he said the dates for the sitting had yet to be officially announced.

“As usual, I will call a press conference for the DUN,” he told reporters after the “Kenegaraan Aku Kasih Malaysia: Pimpinan Belia Negeri Sarawak” seminar here.

“As you all know, the date has been disclosed. Not from the secretary or from me, but from the opposition – they said this is the date and so forth. So, I will call a press conference before the DUN,” said Asfia.

On Sept 10, The Borneo Post sighted a Sarawak Government Gazette stating that, pursuant to Standing Order 8(2) of the Standing Orders of the DUN Sarawak, the Premier of Sarawak had determined that the sitting would be held from Oct 12 to 21, 2026.

The notification, dated Sept 10, was signed by the Secretary of the DUN Sarawak.

Meanwhile, asked whether any Bills, particularly important ones, would be tabled during the sitting, Asfia said his office had yet to receive any Bills from the state government.

“My office has not received any bill from the government. Not yet,” he said.
