KUCHING (July 9): The relevant authority has been asked to reconsider the construction of a steep slip road at Lorong 30 of Jalan Stutong Baru.
Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) man Michael Kong said the planned slip road, which exits onto the newly constructed Jalan Muara Tuang/Jalan Stutong Baru, is approximately six feet higher than Lorong 30.
“This elevation difference will result in an extremely steep slip road, similar to the impractical slip road from Ee Ann City at Mile 7 onto Jalan Penrissen outside the Siong How store at Mile 7.
“Due to the steepness, cars will exit Lorong 30 slowly, creating a hazardous situation, especially considering the fast-moving traffic on the straight road ahead,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Kong, who is special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, added that the Public Works Department’s plan to allow vehicles travelling from the Jalan Stutong Baru junction towards Jalan Muara Tuang to enter and exit Lorong 30 of Jalan Stutong Baru was impractical.
“While the intention may be noble in that it creates better access to Lorong 30, the decision is impractical. Lorong 30 is a small, narrow road only wide enough for one vehicle.
“Creating a two-way traffic flow at the junction of Lorong 30 and the newly constructed Jalan Muara Tuang/Jalan Stutong Baru road is unfeasible.”
Kong also informed that he has initiated contact with the Public Works Department and will seek a meeting with them to address the issue.
