MIRI (July 21): Sarawakians need to continue giving their support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to ensure political stability in the state.

In making this call, Pujut assemblyman Mayor Adam Yii says under the ruling coalition and the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak has undertaken various efforts in the fight for the return of autonomy in several areas.

“GPS has achieved a few things in the recent months. We got Bakum Dam, and now, we have succeeded in taking over Bintulu Port,” he said at the presentation of allocation to 20 clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under Pujut constituency, here yesterday.

Adding on, Yii said the takeover of Bintulu Port, currently Malaysia’s sole liquefied natural gas (LNG) export gateway, would benefit Sarawak tremendously.

“Therefore, we must remain united and support GPS.

“Look at Sabah, they are left behind because they are being governed by the political party from the peninsula,” he said, adding that this had made it difficult for Sabah to claim its rights.

On the allocations amounting RM63,000, Yii advised the local clubs and NGOs to make use of the grants wisely for the betterment of their members.

Also present was the Youth chief for the Pujut branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Kelvin Hii.
