BAU, June 27: A set of copper tape lightning arrester installed on the roof of St Teresa Avila Catholic Church in Kampung Stenggang was reportedly cut and stolen in a theft case currently under police investigation.
Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the police received a report on the incident on June 26, 2026, at 8.41am, lodged by a local retired military personnel who was overseeing repair and maintenance works at the church.
“According to preliminary investigations, the complainant was informed by a contractor worker that the lightning protection system, installed on the church roof, had been cut and taken by unknown individuals.
“The stolen copper tape is estimated to measure about 30 metres in length, with losses amounting to approximately RM4,000,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Police have since conducted inspections at the scene, recorded statements from the complainant, and are actively tracking down those involved in the incident.
