SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) has organised a gotong-royong mega or community collaboration in conjunction with the Rats Eradication Campaign at Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya here recently.
According to the organising chairman Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, who also SRDC’s Standing Committee chairman for Public Health and Environment, SRDC is one of the six councils chosen by Sarawak government to participate in the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry’s Environmental Health Campaign 2024.
“Among the series of campaign such as dengue prevention and food premises cleanliness undertaken by other councils, SRDC will lead the campaign for eradication of rats
“Therefore we start off the campaign with gotong-royong mega with all our community at Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya,” he said.
SRDC chairman Cr Sempurai Petrus Ngelai who was also present, thanked all the participants for their time to make this gotong-royong a success and their support for the programme initiated by the council.
“It is important to raise awareness and to spread information on steps needed to eradicate rats as they are a serious threat to public health carrying disease such as leptospirosis,” he asserted.
He invited the community at Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya to also participate at the launching of the campaign today (July 1), which will be officiated by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
