KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed to building a comprehensive education ecosystem that benefits educators and students.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the state government has allocated its own funds to upgrade dilapidated schools across Sarawak.

“The Sarawak government will spend its own funds to develop and upgrade 100 of such schools in Sarawak. Then, the federal government will reimburse the cost that we spent. This will speed up the upgrading process because it reduces the bureaucratic process,” he said during the national-level Persatuan Professional Sipartners Malaysia (Prisma) Conference 2024 today (May 7).

In addition to upgrading schools, the state government has also developed five international schools using its own funds.

“Apart from national schools, we also want our children to be fluent in other languages and learn the Cambridge syllabus. We want to give opportunities to all smart students in urban and rural areas so that in the future, they can study at a famous university that specialises in new technology,” he added.

Abang Johari emphasised the need for children skilled in new technologies like hydrogen production and algae-based biofuel production to drive the state’s development.

“We need children who are skilled in new technologies such as hydrogen production and algae-based biofuel production to drive the field,” he said.
