KUCHING: The ongoing Kuching Food Festival 2024 saw for the first time Kwang Wai Siew Association sharing their best of traditional clan food.

During his visit to their stall, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said some of the clan’s food only available during the festival.

He said one of the unique features of the Kuching Food Festival is the creativity and entrepreneurship by the young from different races which truly reflect Kuching as the UNESCO’s City of Gastronomy.

“I always spend time to visit each stall and speak to the stall owners, against the traditional stereotype: many are university students (on holidays), full time working (sharing their creative hobby), young startups selling their food online, and even an emerging group of young entrepreneurs just selling during events throughout Sarawak,” he said this in his Facebook post.

He acknowledged that these diverse groups are the ones who contributed to the success of the festival.

“I was told that every night for the first three nights there were about 40,000 to 60,000 visitors per night.

“Met many Sarawakians from outside Kuching, from West Malaysia alongside tourists from Singapore, China and Europe. Enjoy the remaining nights of Kuching Food Festival,” he added.
