MIRI (Sept 26): Curtin University Malaysia’s Faculty of Business has engaged its group of students to deliver financial literacy talks to the local community.

Led by Associate Dean of External Engagement Yip Ka Yii and supported by lecturers Dr Ho Jie Min and Dr Ivy Hii, the initiative involved three student groups tasked with delivering a series of financial literacy talks.

Covering essential topics from personal financial management to safeguarding against financial scams, the talks aimed to make financial education accessible and relevant to the local community.

“The project is more than just an academic exercise; it provides the students with invaluable hands-on experience in knowledge sharing and public speaking,” said the university in a press release.

“Through this community engagement, the participants have also developed critical skills like teamwork and leadership which are the qualities that are essential in today’s competitive business landscape,” it added.

The initiative, said the university, underscored its commitment to developing well-rounded graduates who are equipped with both academic prowess and the soft skills needed to succeed in an increasingly complex business environment.

“By integrating community engagement into the curriculum, Curtin Malaysia is setting a new standard for experiential learning, in ensuring that the students are well-equipped with strong foundation for their future career.”
