KUCHING (July 19): Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB) Sabah confirmed that the permit for logistic vehicles, such as lorries and cargo trucks, from Sarawak to enter Sabah has recently been extended to one year.
According to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the permit was previously only valid for three months, while vehicles from Sabah could enter Sarawak with a one-year permit.
He said this in a statement today after receiving a courtesy call by CVLB Sabah members, led by its chairperson Vivian Wong Shir Yee, who is also Sandakan MP.
Lee said the discrepancy had caused significant inconvenience to Sarawak’s logistics industry, hence CVLB Sarawak was requested to raise the issue with CVLB Sabah last year.
The issue was also personally brought up by him to the federal Transport Minister Anthony after receiving feedback from the Sarawak Lorries Transport Association and the Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Association (SFAA).
Additionally, Lee provided the visitors with an overview of Sarawak’s transportation industry and transformative initiatives in the industry.
He highlighted key projects such as the Kuching Urban Transport System, which features the hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) and hydrogen buses.
During the meeting, Lee and Vivian discussed matters related to transboundary transport between Sarawak, Sabah and neighbouring countries, namely Brunei Darussalam and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
“These issues will be further addressed in the upcoming BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area) and SOSEK MALINDO meetings,” Lee said.
Also present was Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Transport Sarawak Datu Wong Hee Sieng.
Meanwhile, the Sabah delegation included Sabah CVLB deputy chairman Datuk Musa Sulaiman and director Dairin Unsir.
