KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications (Utilities) Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi said 233 landowners from Kampung Pulo Ulu have received compensation cheques.

Of these, 30 individuals received both compensation cheques and land titles, 84 received only land titles, and 60 heads of households received house keys.

A total of RM75.7 million has been allocated to compensate the 233 landowners in relation to the Darul Hana housing development project.

“The relocation of 60 residents marks the completion of the first phase,” he said after the cheque compensation, land title, and house key handover ceremony for the heads of households of Kampung Pulo Ulu at Wisma Sabati on Monday (Oct14).

It was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

According to Abdul Rahman this is part of the government’s initiative to provide new housing for residents of the Seberang Hilir villages, complete with various social and economic facilities.

He said he had received inquiries from residents of villages such as Boyan, Bintawa, and Gersik, among others, about their turn to relocate.

“Their curiosity comes after seeing the improved living conditions of those who have already moved in during the earlier phase, where the housing is well-organised and systematic.

“Currently, land around the Darul Hana housing area has been expanded … this is in preparation for the second phase.

“We hope that construction can be expedited during the 13th Malaysia Plan which will start next year.

“Our goal is to ensure that all village residents can benefit from the basic amenities offered in the Darul Hana housing project, improving the quality of life for their families and future generations,” he said.

Awang Tengah said that the Sarawak government had issued land titles under Section 18 of the State Land Code, with special conditions imposed for residential use by the homeowners in Darul Hana.

“Additionally, we have handed over 60 house keys to recipients from Kampung Pulo Ulu.

“This demonstrates the state government’s strong commitment to ensuring that the affected villagers receive fair compensation,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Awang Tengah added that the Darul Hana project has completed 564 houses to date, with another 94 still under construction.

“We have already distributed 318 houses previously, and today we successfully handed over another 60 units,” he said.

“For extended families set to relocate to the Sungai Bedaun housing area, 209 houses have been completed, with 115 already handed over,” he added.
