DBKU aims to make Kuching a low-carbon city by 2030

KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is aiming to position Kuching as a low-carbon city in line with Sarawak’s direction towards driving sustainable socioeconomic development by 2030.

DBKU mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman stated that DBKU’s main goal in making Kuching a low-carbon city is to reduce carbon emission intensity.

“DBKU can provide fundamental urban development that enhances local economic generation, reduces environmental impact, and improves the quality of life for city residents.

“My hope is that the initiatives planned by DBKU and other agencies will open a new chapter in our efforts to make Kuching a low-carbon city.

“DBKU will always play an important role in ensuring Kuching is one of the best cities in Malaysia and worldwide in terms of environmental conservation and preservation.”

Hilmy said this during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Stakeholder Assemblies Forum SUF 1.0 at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here, Tuesday (Oct 22).

At the same event, he mentioned that the forum has become a key platform where various stakeholders can come together, exchange views, and build partnerships to achieve the goal of sustainable urban development.

He also expressed his belief that participants have gained impactful insights that can inspire all involved.

Sarawak, he added, is currently focusing on its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, aspiring to be a prosperous state for all, encompassing economic growth, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

“DBKU will also ensure a clean and healthy urban environment for the current and future generations.”

Thus, Hilmy hopes that DBKU’s efforts will continue to grow and remain committed to playing a crucial role in sustainable and inclusive urban development.
