KUCHING: Eligible Sarawakian students are reminded that the application deadline for the Sarawak Free Laptop and Free Book Voucher programmes is fast approaching.
The final date to apply is Aug 14. Students can submit their applications online through the My-Yayasan website at https://myys.yayasansarawak.org.my to take advantage of these valuable opportunities.
Launched on July 1, these initiatives are designed to support students from families with a per capita income of RM1,500 and below.
The Free Laptop programme, with a budget of RM15 million, aims to benefit 5,000 first-year Diploma and undergraduate students in both public and private educational institutions across Malaysia.
Similarly, the RM500 Free Book Voucher scheme, with a total budget of RM17.5 million, is set to benefit 35,000 students at all levels of study, from Foundation to PhD.
In a statement, Yayasan Sarawak cited Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who highlighted the initiative’s significance.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to ensuring that every Sarawakian student has the opportunity to excel academically without the barrier of financial constraints.
“By providing free laptops and book vouchers, we hope to create a more equitable educational landscape,” he was quoted as saying.
He also emphasised the critical role of education in Sarawak’s long-term development plans, noting that well-educated citizens are essential for driving innovation and growth in the state.
As such, Yayasan Sarawak asserted that the Sarawak government remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering the younger generation through education.
“By providing essential tools like laptops and book vouchers, the government aims to bridge the digital divide and support students in achieving their educational goals,” the statement read.
