SIBU: Department chiefs, commanding officers, and supervisors are urged to maintain strict oversight over their subordinates to prevent any involvement in misconduct.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said this while addressing concerns about social media posts highlighting policemen involved in misconduct that tarnished the image of the police force.
That said, he asserted a zero-tolerance approach and vowed not to compromise with any officers or personnel found engaging in any misconduct.
“Every supervisor should reprimand and take corrective action against any of their respective subordinates found involved in any misconduct, insubordination, unethical or inappropriate acts.
“This aimed to ensure that the integrity of police officers can be improved in addition to preserving and protecting the image of the police force,” he said during the Sibu district police headquarters (IPD) monthly assembly yesterday (Jan 23).
He also emphasised the need for police officers to exhibit excellent service quality and professionalism, especially when interacting with the public.
“Be courteous toward the public when working in the field or at the complaint counter.
“Be positive and wise in solving problems in any situation as this will reflect our ‘World Class Policing’ core value with integrity and professionalism,” he said.
Zulkipli also encouraged the police officers to master related skills, fully understand the standard operating procedures (SOP) while on duty, and equip themselves with knowledge of existing laws.
“When conducting an investigation, quality must be prioritised based on the law procedures where every complaint received must be investigated with full integrity to avoid dissatisfaction.
“By prioritising professionalism and adherence to procedures, we aim to avoid accusations that could tarnish our reputation,” he said.
