KUCHING (Aug 5): The Kembara Jumpa Orang Muda (JOM) presents an invaluable opportunity for Sarawak to incorporate its unique perspectives into the federal policy-making process.
In stating this, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim points out that the programme has made him gain insights that are different from those commonly received in Peninsular Malaysia.
“This experience is invaluable as it brings the unique and significant perspectives from Sarawak.
“By involving the Sarawak government, we have gathered deeper and more relevant insights essential in the federal policy-making process,” he told reporters when met at ‘Kembara JOM’ in Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex here yesterday.
Asked about the programme’s reception in Sarawak, Adam Adli said the feedback had been ‘overwhelmingly positive’.
In this regard, he regarded the programme as ‘a highly effective approach and an excellent opportunity for policy development’.
“Realistically, when developing any policy, even at the Ministry of Youth and Sports level, it is crucial to consider diverse input and perspectives.
“The context in Sarawak is unique, and without direct engagement with the Sarawak government, the youths and the stakeholders, we cannot formulate policies that are suitable for everyone,” he added.
According to Adam Adli, Sarawak was the 11th leg of the ‘Kembara JOM’ series.
“Unlike the usual practice of hosting it in just one place per state, the events for Sarawak are being held in multiple locations including Kuching, Sibu and Miri.
“This approach should allow us to gather more comprehensive input, and also foster stronger connections between our ministry and Sarawak youths,” he said.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Sports Commissioner of Malaysia Suhardi Alias, and Youth and Sports Department Sarawak director Lamat Nyalau.
