KUCHING (Aug 23): Muhammad Lutfir Rahman Mohammad Razak and Nurul Farisya Alia Affendi have won the gold medal for the 10m platform mixed synchronised event on the final day of 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) diving events.
Muhammad Lutfir admitted he was nervous about competing in the synchronised event as he was only paired with Nurul Farisya two months ago, after her initial partner had to withdraw due to injury.
“I felt nervous because this is a national level event, so I had to dive on a national level,” he shared.
“I made a mistake on the third dive, which caused the water entry to not look good.”
Despite the pressure and challenges, Muhammad Lutfir and his teammate delivered a performance that earned them the top spot on the podium with 234.66 points.
Megat Asim Hakimi and Cecelia Olivia from Perak won silver with 209.94 points, while Ng Jia Gee and Nurqayyum Nazmi from Federal Territories won bronze with 203.97 points.
Earlier in the competition, Muhammad Lutfi won a silver medal in the 1m springboard individual event.
Looking ahead, he will be participating in the national trials, Malaysia Open, and World Junior Championships later this year.
For Nurul Farisya, there was a slight dip in her confidence after their third dive, but she quickly regained her composure and delivered strong performances in the following dives.
She credited their success to the unwavering support from their coaches, family, and fans.
