Dignitaries pay respects to Sarawak Australia Business Chamber president’s late mother

KUCHING: Numerous dignitaries paid their last respects to Tan Phua Eng, the late mother of Rodger Chan Siong Boh, president of the Sarawak Australia Business Chamber (SABC), who passed away on Sarawak Day (July 22).

Among those present were Deputy Premier and Minister for Health, Local Government and Housing, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping; Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, and Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

“The family of Tan Phua Eng gathered on July 25 to bid a heartfelt farewell to their beloved matriarch, who passed away on Sarawak Day, July 22, at the age of 101.

“The wake and funeral services were a joyous celebration of Madam Tan’s long and fulfilling life, marked by the presence of over 80 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all dressed in red to honour her vibrant spirit,” said Chan.

Dr Sim expressed his condolences to the family, highlighting Tan’s remarkable journey and her significant impact on her community.

Fatimah echoed these sentiments, stressing the legacy Tan leaves behind in her extensive and loving family.

Chan, along with his siblings and extended family, expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and love during this time.

The family fondly remembered Tan’s strength, kindness and dedication to her family.

Xing also paid tribute, acknowledging the deep connections she fostered within the community and expressing admiration for her longevity and the values she instilled in her family.

Chong shared personal memories of Tan, celebrating her as a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration for many.
