Julaihi says the Sarawak government reiterated that under the ordinance, Petros is appointed the Sole Gas Aggregator.

KUCHING (Oct 31): The Sarawak government tonight confirmed that discussion between Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) on the implementation of the Sole Gas Aggregator arrangements under the Distribution of Gas Ordinance, 2016 is ongoing.

In a statement, Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the Sarawak government reiterated that under the ordinance, Petros is appointed the Sole Gas Aggregator.

“There are no other Gas Aggregator in the state.

“Sarawak government reiterates that the ongoing discussion between Petronas and Petros ought to be concluded soonest,” he said.

Earlier today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that Petronas had recognised the designation of Petros as the sole aggregator for natural gas in the state.

He said Petronas had informed the state government informally on the matter.

“Petronas has informed us and, officially, the matter could be finalised today. Meaning we will proceed with our role as the aggregator and the detailed formula will be discussed further,” Abang Johari said.

Later, Petronas in a statement clarified that it is still in discussions with Petros on the proposed implementation of the DGO.

The national oil and gas company said the ongoing discussions aim to align the interests and objectives of all parties while preserving the sanctity of existing contractual arrangements.

It added that the discussions also aim to ensure commitments to investors and customers continue to be fulfilled.
