Double your efforts, Lee tells Inner Wheel members

MIRI: Inner Wheel Clubs in District 331 need to double their efforts to champion their goals of promoting true friendship, works of charity and volunteerism besides fostering international understanding.

Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said besides recruiting more members to empower women to become skillful leaders in many fields, they should continue organising impactful events to benefit both local and international community. 

“Congratulations on your participation in the 100th Anniversary of International Inner Wheel, in Manchester from May 7-10 and also organising a blood donation campaign as part of the activities for the centenary celebration

“This is a very commendable commitment shown by Inner Wheel to achieve its roles and vision.”

Lee said this in a speech read by councillor Yap Siew Jin when officiating the IWC Miri Installation cum Gawai – Kaamatan dinner here on Sunday night.

Among those present were councillor Liza Yu who represented Datuk Sebastian Ting – Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Rita Lau who represented Mayor Adam Yii, IWD 331 Chairman, Cecilia Amit, International Inner Wheel Past Board Director, Datin Pearl Jai Mohan, Past National Representative, Rokiah Staun and Cecilia Sman – IWC Miri President and event organising chairman. 

Lee too stressed the needs for more skilful leaders particularly women who could lead and also garner support from the society for any project benefiting both the local and global community.

He pledged an initial government grant of RM5,000 to IWC Miri which also received pledges of government grants from Yii and Datuk Gerawat Gala –  Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring).

Cecilia Amit, meanwhile, announced that the IWC Miri had agreed in principle to host the District Annual General Meeting, and 3rd Friendship Rally in March 2025. 

She also commended IWC Miri led by Cecilia for successfully carrying out many activities and charity projects and was confident that incoming president, Diana Rose will lead the vlub to even greater heights.

During the installation ceremony, certificates of appreciation and roses were also given to five past members who made outstanding contributions to the Inner Wheel District and Club. 

The recipients were, Cecilia, Annie Tan, Joanna Joy, Bharathi Anand and it was also posthumously given to Florence Enau who died on May 29, 2023.
