KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian showcased a down-to-earth side during his visit to a local kopitiam.

Known for his distinctive yellow shirt, Dr Sim broke from tradition, donning black shorts and sandals to beat the sweltering heat.

“Climate change is bringing extreme weather. It’s getting hotter in Sarawak,” he said in his Facebook post, yesterday (July 28).

Taking a moment to cool off, he was seen ordering a bowl of Sarawak Ais Kacang.

He urged the public to stay in the shade and limit outdoor activities.

“Use plenty of sunblock and stay hydrated by drinking enough water,” he advised.

MetMalaysia on July 22 said that two tropical cyclones, categorised as a typhoon and a tropical storm, are currently active in the northeast of the Philippines and the South China Sea near Hainan Island.

“This situation is causing the weather in the country to become drier with less rainfall over the next few days.

“Based on weather model analyses, conditions are expected to return to normal from July 27,” the department said.

However, at press time, Sarawak is still experiencing continuous hot weather.

Meanwhile, according to the weather forecast via the MetMalaysia website, several areas in Sarawak will have light rain later tonight.
