KUCHING (Sept 4): The Sarawak government is focussing on teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in English and promoting the learning of multiple languages in schools, said Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Deputy Premier said Sarawak is well positioned to take on the challenges of being a developed state by emphasising on the development of the state’s human capital and equipping the youth with necessary skillsets.

“Sarawak always places a priority on education, understanding that with the provision of the right tools to our younger generation beginning from their first days in school all the way to their tertiary education, we are giving them the added advantage over others.

“This is a duty that we take seriously as leaders of Sarawak, and I am proud to say that we have taken the right steps in ensuring this for our future generation of leaders,” he said in a speech for the 19th International TRIZfest 2024 Conference here today.

His speech was delivered by Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

Dr Sim said the state government has been taking steps to ensure members of the younger generation step onto the world stage equipped with global business and STEM knowledge.

On the conference, Dr Sim said TRIZ stands for ‘Theory of Inventive Problem Solving’, which advocates ‘outside the box’ solutions and developing novel and innovative methods to overcome challenges.

The three-day conference, which features panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking sessions, is jointly organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Malaysia TRIZ Innovation Association, Sarawak TRIZ Association, and International TRIZ Association.
