Drug prevention the collective responsibility of all, says Batu Kitang rep

KUCHING (Oct 22): Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang underscored the importance of drug prevention and emphasised how it is a collective responsibility.

He acknowledged the need for ongoing collaboration between government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and the public in addressing drug-related issues.

“Drug addiction is a challenge that touches every corner of our society, threatening not only individuals but entire families and communities. Prevention is better than cure and education is our most powerful weapon in this fight,” he said when speaking at the Anti Drug Digital Infohunt programme in Kampung Semeba on Oct 19, according to a recent statement.

The programme, which was a joint collaboration between the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Kuching and Kuching Anti-Drugs Squad, served as an innovative platform engaging participants in learning about drug prevention through interactive digital activities.

Lo also commended the programme as a creative approach in spreading awareness, noting it extended the message beyond the attendees and reaching online communities as well.

With 40 youths participating from Kampung Semeba, Kampung Sudat, Kampung Tematu and Kampung Bumbok, the programme highlighted the importance of using digital tools in raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction.

Lo also encouraged the public to support to fight against drug abuse by volunteering with the movement. Those interested can register as anti-drug volunteers through the Antidrugs SKUAD website.

Also present were AADK Sarawak assistant director of treatment and rehabilitation Ahmad Fikri Arif Muhamad Fuat, Malaysia Drugs Prevention Association (Pemadam) Kuching branch chairman Sofhi Jebal, Padawan Subdistrict Office representative Paul Mathieus Akin and Kampung Semeba Ketua Kaum Thomas Gown.
