KUCHING, 15 Oct: The District of the National Assembly (DUN) Tebedu has a very important strategic advantage which is its location on the Sarawak-Western Kalimantan border, Indonesia, says ADUN Tebedu Simon Sinang Bada.

According to him, the position opens up opportunities for the development of cross-border trade, logistics, tourism, small business and agricultural product marketing.

"With the development in Kalimantan, including the development of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, I see opportunities for Tebedu to play a greater role in regional economic relations.

"However, the location advantage alone does not guarantee economic progress", he said.

He said this while discussing Sarawak Budget 2027 at the 19th Sarawak DUN Conference today.

In addition, appropriate trade infrastructure is needed in addition to an efficient border management system, logistical facilities and policies that can encourage the participation of local entrepreneurs.

"I hope that the Government of Sarawak and related agencies will continue to pay attention to the potential economic development of the Tebedu border", he added.

He added that this development could open up employment opportunities, boost business activity and create new markets for local agricultural products.

Most importantly, he said, the local population must be given an opportunity to participate directly in such economic growth and Tebedu should not be just a trade route but should develop as a hub that creates economic opportunities and prosperity for its residents. - TVS
