Duo fined over stealing 10kg frozen patin from Sibujaya supermarket

SIBU (Aug 7): Two men pleaded guilty before the Magistrates’ Court here today for stealing 10kg of frozen patin or silver catfish worth around RM90 from a supermarket in Sibujaya here.

Mohammad Syaiful Ibrahim, 40, from Jalan Masjid and Mohammad Faizal Abdul Halim, 36, from Kampung Baharu pleaded guilty before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same act.

The Section provides an imprisonment term of up to seven years or with a fine, or both upon conviction.

Mohammad Syaiful was fined RM2,000 in default two months’ in jail, while Mohammad Faizal was fined RM1,000 in default one month imprisonment.

The duo committed the offence on July 21 at 10.21am at a supermarket in Sibu Jaya.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant was informed about the theft from a customer to which he later checked the premises’ closed-circuit television (CCTV) and discovered the accused carting away a box containing 10kg frozen ‘patin’ fish through the rear entrance of the supermarket.

Both of the accused were arrested on Aug 2 and 3. They failed to settle the fine.

ASP Siti Mariyah Dahari prosecuted the case while both accused were unrepresented.
