Two men have each been sentenced to one year in jail after they pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court in Sibu today to stealing a roll of cable.

SIBU (Oct 21): Two men were each sentenced to one year in jail after they pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to stealing a roll of cable.

Dexter Lee Sulek, 29, and Andree Agassi Akat, 28, both from Kuching, made the plea before Magistrate Romario Jonoi after the charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code was read to them.

The Section provides imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The duo was jointly charged with committing the offence at a telecommunication tower site in Durin here at about 6pm on Sept 23.

Based on the facts of the case, the complaint and his colleagues discovered the theft when they visited the tower site and found cut marks on the wire fencing.

Loss was estimated at RM7,000.

Acting on a report lodged, police arrested Dexter and Andree at Jalan Wong Nai Siong on Oct 3, after a search of their car uncovered wires and cables, a flashlight, screwdrivers and batteries, believed linked to the case.

Insp Kumareswaran Murugan prosecuted, while both accused were not represented by legal counsel.
