Duo who trespassed on Kuching woman’s house get a year in jail

KUCHING (Aug 26): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced two men who committed house-trespass to a year in jail each.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence against Jeffry Jamali and Mohd Shahrulluddin Ahmad Zaidi after they pleaded guilty to Section 453 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

The duo committed the offence at a house belonging to a woman at Jalan Green here around 1.30pm on July 16.

Based on the facts of the case, a police team was patrolling the area when the men were caught suspiciously climbing the fence of the woman’s house, which was vacant at the time.

During the arrest, the police also seized tools such as pliers, spanners, a wire cutter, and a test pen, believed to be used for housebreaking and tampering with electronics.

The investigation found that the men had committed house-trespass by entering the compound without the owner’s permission.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution while the two men were unrepresented by legal counsel.
