KUCHING (Aug 18): The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) successfully held two anti-rabies vaccination campaigns yesterday.
According to a Facebook post by DVSS, a total of 38 dogs were vaccinated in Sekuau, Sibu, while 56 dogs were vaccinated in Bintulu.
“The vaccination programme in Sekuau, Sibu saw 35 dogs receiving their first dose, while the remaining dogs received booster shots. Additionally, nine dogs were also microchipped after being issued the licences,” it added.
DVSS said the vaccination programme was a collaboration between DVS Sibu and the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), with an aim to control and prevent the spread of rabies in the area.
“It was also to heighten community’s awareness of the importance of rabies vaccination so as to ensure that people are free from the threat of this disease,” it added.
In another Facebook post, DVSS said the programme took place at Balai Raya Sg Plan in Bintulu where 29 dogs received their first jab, while the other 27 had their booster doses.
“This vaccination campaign is part of an ongoing effort to control and prevent the spread of rabies in the Bintulu area. With the cooperation of local authorities and the community, it is hoped that this effort can ensure the safety and health of pets and local residents,” it added.
The department extended appreciation to all those involved in making the programme a success.
“Hopefully this noble effort can be continued in the future for the betterment of the community,” added DVSS.
DVSS also appealed to the community in Padawan area to support yet another anti-rabies vaccination campaign to be held at Taman Indah Landeh Multipurpose Hall come Aug 24.
The forthcoming programme is scheduled to be held from 9am to 3pm.
“Don’t forget to bring your pet’s vaccination record. Let’s make Padawan rabies-free together,” added DVSS.
