Early morning blaze destroys three Kampung Bako houses, motorcycles

KUCHING (July 25): A fire at 1.58am today destroyed three wooden houses in Kampung Bako, here.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire also destroyed four parked motorcycles.

In total, the fire left 16 villagers homeless.

“At the scene were firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station, who were assisted by the village’s volunteer firefighters,” Bomba said in a statement.

The department said the first house, which measured around 222 square metres, was home to a total of 14 occupants, consisting of 10 adults and four children.

The second house measuring around 55 square metres was home to an elderly couple, while the third house was unoccupied.

Firefighters used three water nozzles with water sourced from Bomba’s fire truck and a nearby fire hydrant.

The fire was fully extinguished at 4.20am.
