Early morning fire damages furniture shop in Sibu

SIBU (Sept 4): A furniture shop in Jalan Tiong Hua here was damaged by a fire in the early hours of today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie in a statement said no casualties were reported during the incident.

He said a distress call was received at 2.39am and firefighters from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah fire stations were deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the fire involved the ground floor of a three-storey building, which was about 60 per cent destroyed,” he added.

Andy said the fire was brought under control at 2.59am and was fully extinguished by 3.07am.

“After ensuring the situation was under control and safe, the firefighters ended the operation.”

The cause of fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
