KUCHING, Sept 12: An early morning fire destroyed the first floor and heavily damaged the second floor of a three-storey Ninso retail outlet along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here today.

According to a Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report, four individuals at the scene—three women and a 63-year-old man—escaped unhurt in the incident, which was reported at 3.42am.

A total of 25 firefighters from the Batu Lintang, Padungan and Tabuan Jaya fire stations were dispatched, arriving within three minutes of the emergency call.

“Upon arrival, operational commanders reported that the fire had engulfed the first and second floors of the building, covering an area of approximately 40 by 80 feet. The ground floor was unaffected,” the statement read.

Firefighters executed offensive and defensive operations using multiple 300-foot hose lines. Due to low hydrant pressure in the area, the Tabuan Jaya team initiated relay pumping from a water tanker, while Padungan firefighters attacked the flames from the rear of the building.

The blaze was brought under control at 5.18am. Overhaul operations continued until the site was declared safe, with the operation officially wrapping up at 2.54pm.
