KUCHING (July 29): The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Level 1 (alert) heatwave warning for eight districts in Sarawak as of 6am today.

Telang Usan is the latest district to be issued with the alert, in addition to Miri, Marudi, Sibu, Kapit, Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, and Kuching, which were announced yesterday (July 28).

The other districts in Malaysia which have also been issued with the alert include Beaufort (Sabah), Larut and Matang in Perak, Kuala Muda (Kedah), and Kuala Krai (Kelantan).

A Level 1 alert is issued when temperatures reach between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.

An orange alert, or Level 2 warning, is issued when temperatures range between 37°C and 40°C for three days in a row.

A red alert, indicating an extreme heatwave, is issued when temperatures exceed 40°C for three consecutive days.
