Elderly woman, 11 grandkids escape as fire destroys house in Sibu

SIBU (Sept 5): A double-storey wooden house at Lane 6, Kampung Sentosa here was completely destroyed in a fire around 6pm today.

The house owner, a woman in her 60s, told reporters that she was about to have dinner when she noticed smoke coming from the upper floor of the house.

“Without a second thought, I immediately gathered all my 11 grandchildren and escaped from the house,” she said.

The woman said she was unable to save anything in her haste to escape as the fire was spreading very fast.

Firemen from Sibu fire station arrived later and managed to control the situation.

The cause of the fire and the total losses are still being investigated.
