Gerawat says when one team member or a group receives recognition, it can inspire others to strive for better performance.

BINTULU (Oct 3): The employee recognition programme extends beyond just work performance as it can be awarded for various reasons to reinforce positive behaviour, practices or activities that benefit the company, said Datuk Gerawat Gala.

The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) noted that the main goal of such programmes is to motivate and retain quality employees, preventing them from leaving the company.

“However, employee recognition goes beyond this, as it also helps to foster a positive work culture within the company.

“Implementing employee recognition can help boost team morale, cultivate a culture of self-improvement, encourage progressive work styles, and create healthy competition,” he said.

Gerawat made these remarks during the Penan Community Employees appreciation ceremony (Metalun) with Danum Sinar Sdn Bhd at Danum Sinar Estate in Murum today.

He explained that when one team member or a group receives recognition, it can inspire others to strive for better performance.

This culture of recognition, he added, also nurtures a positive work environment where employees are naturally inclined to improve themselves.

He said the growth of a company can be observed through the progressive actions of its employees as workers who continue to perform without complaints or thoughts of quitting contribute significantly to the company’s rapid development.

He added that employee recognition can also foster healthy competition within the company, as employees with shared missions and objectives are more motivated to compete in a positive manner.
